SARBAND means connection - just as the name, which stems from Oriental music theory and denotes to an improvised linking of two compositions within a musical suite. Musical director Dr. Vladimir Ivanoff, who founded SARBAND in 1986, both as a scholar and a musician, connects cultures, people and epochs: His programmes unite musicians from the most different cultures and backgrounds and mediate between past and present, Early Music and living traditions. We have been proud to collaborate with Saraband in our programme (and recording) “Sacred Bridges” (Signum).

Our collaboration with Christina Pluhar and her ensemble L'Arpeggiata has produced a series of sparkling, vital and beautiful concerts and the recording, “Los Impossibles” (Harmonia Mundi). Featured are 17th Century 'Negrillos' discovered recently in Portugal. L'Arpeggiata uses modern jazz techniques but plays on 'period' instruments. Also featured in this programme is Flamenco guitarist Pepe Habichuela, and French/Spanish singer Ana Felip. The combined results are uniquely thrilling!
